THE Central Touch Association has extended the suspension of its competition in response to the Government’s extension of the Covid-19 State of Emergency, according to an official.
Association president Alice Kwarara told The National that the continued suspension was a precautionary measure over the pandemic in Port Moresby.
“The Central Touch Association, like all other sports, has been advised to defer its season until further notice,” she said.
“This is a preventive measure to ensure that we follow all the directives given by (the sport’s national governing body) Touch Football Papua New Guinea.
“The three-week pre-season was planned for March with the season scheduled to begin after that.
“We have about eight to 10 clubs competing this season, depending on how best the teams are prepared.
“We will continue to monitor the situation, making sure that all our athletes are safe and healthy as we all go through these hard times.
“We will make more announcements in due course.”
Meanwhile, the first reported case of the virus in Port Moresby last week has seen tightened security measures along the border between Central and the National Capital District with the exception of essential personnel.
During Easter, a number of sports and church activities in Central were called off in response to the State of Emergency.
