THE Pari health centre in Kundiawa Gembogl, Chimbu, received solar-powered kits and a small fridge to store vaccines from Bank South Pacific (BSP).
It was understood that medical staff at this health centre had been using lamps and a mobile phone torch to attend to medical emergencies at night over the past 15 years.
The centre also had vaccine storage issues as it had no electricity or proper storage facility to keep vaccines.
Sister-in-charge Sr Maryanne Bomai said the provision of health services at the facility was affected by election-related violence over the years, which resulted in the displacement of villages and surrounding communities in the area.
“With the special assistance from BSP, we have lights in the clinic to treat patients and access, especially at night,” she said.
“Our vaccines will be stored in the freezer for proper sterilisation.”
Apart from the solar-powered kit and the fridge, the bank’s Kundiawa branch assisted with minor renovations carried out on the health facility, including the donation of pillows and mattresses and some new curtains.
BSP Kundiawa branch manager Rita Singut said this project among others across nationwide showed BSP’s commitment to the people.
This project and assistance was part of BSP Kundiawa branch’s 2021 community project initiative. “Despite the distance and road condition, our team took time off the weekends to visit the project site,” Singut said.
