AS the number of Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases increases at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH), the Covid-19 facility at the Taurama Aquatic Centre (TAC) has reopened, Pandemic Response Deputy Controller Dr Daoni Esorom says.
He said the opening of the TAC was prompted because PMGH did not have the capacity for Covid-19 cases.
Dr Esorom said the isolation ward at PMGH was 50 per cent full which demanded a response and that was the opening of TAC.
He said adjacent to the TAC was the Air-Lab testing facility which was completed and would be opened soon.
“We are waiting for clearance and an agreement between National Control Centre, the Health Department and the state solicitor,” Dr Esorom said.
“It’s actually going to be an opportune opening for us at the time the country is going through a surge in cases so that we can actually do PCR-testing there.
“The lab can run 3,000 PCR tests in a day.”
