TEN provinces have committed to the 2015 Pacific Games Community Celebration Site programme.

Through the programme, provincial governments will set up live sites in their respective provinces giving residents and visitors the opportunity to gather and enjoy daily broadcasts of the Games sport competitions, art and cultural activities.

The centres confirmed for the programme are Central, Gulf, Manus, Oro, East Sepik, West Sepik, Autonomous Region of Bougainville, Western Highlands, Eastern Highlands and Western.

Western will have two live celebration sites, with Ok Tedi Mining, a platinum sponsor of the Games, coming on-board to set up a site for Tabubil.

“These sites will provide a vital link, connecting and engaging the country with the Games by bringing the excitement of the events in Port Moresby to the provinces,” Games Organising Committee chief executive officer Peter Stewart said.

Each site will be decorated with Games banners, sponsor signage, a large blow up Games mascot, balloons and the main feature of each site is the large screen that will project the broadcast.

Provinces can organise extra entertainment and cultural activities in those venues which will be free of charge and alcohol free.

“We want every Papua New Guinean to be part of the Games in some way and a live celebration site in each province is the best way to achieve that,” Stewart said.

Governors were given a presentation of the programme during the Governors’ conference in October last year.
