BLACKOUTS in Port Moresby did not affect the operations of the Bank South Pacific Financial Group Ltd (BSP) branches – except for the Harbour side branch as its standby generator was not working.
BSP chief executive officer Robin Fleming said all its branches and data processing centres had backup generators.
He also said ATMs without access to generators went offline affecting customers.
“BSP Haus has not had any power with their standby generator not working. BSP has been in regular contact with the building landlord to ascertain when the generator will be operational again,” Fleming said. “ATMs, especially offsite ATMs that may not have access to generators experience outages when there are blackouts, despite our best efforts to mitigate power outages with uninterrupted power supply units.
PNG Power Ltd acting chief executive officer Obed Batia blamed the weather for the blackouts.
Meanwhile, Brian Bell Group chief executive officer Cameron Mackellar said the sale of generators increased this year, “no doubt largely driven by the frequent power outages and everyone’s need to secure regular power”.
