SEPIK Pride, a team aiming for Digicel Cup inclusion next year, have high hopes of being a benchmark side in the country’s premier rugby league competition.
Pride chairman John Wagambie Snr said if given the nod to enter the Digicel Cup, he was confident that they would be managed well. “We will be transparent, we have the best technical expertise and also our governor doesn’t interfere, which comes back to me as the chairman to acquit every toea,” he said.
“We want to be a top Digicel Cup team like the Lae Tigers and Rabaul Gurias.”
Wagambie said politicians should not interfere with the management of clubs. Meanwhile, he said they were planning to recruit 80 per cent of their players from the two Sepik provinces and the rest from outside.
Wagambie said they would need to bring in experienced campaigners to provide leadership to their young players.
Young talents from Madang and Northern will also push for selection as they are “neighbouring provinces”, Wagambie said.
“We will be working to also identify young talents from other provinces,” he said.
