THE longest-serving Cricket Papua New Guinea board chairman Mick Nades, pictured, resigned at last month’s annual general at the Cricket PNG head office.
Nades, who is chairman of the Institute of Business Studies, made the announcement following PNG’s historic win over Kenya in May at the Amini Park, Port Moresby, in the first International Cricket Council World Cricket League Championship match staged at home.
Nades, who is the Belgian Honorary Consul in PNG since 1994, has served with distinction as Cricket PNG’s chairman over the past 10 years.
He started with the organisation as its treasurer in 2003 before being elected chairman in 2005.
Under his leadership, CPNG obtained International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International status for both the men’s and women’s national teams.
In May, the outgoing chairman signed a 20-year-lease with the State for Amini Park and its surrounding grounds.
The lease agreement was signed by the Government, Cricket PNG and the PNG Sports Foundation, ensuring that cricket would have long-term control of the Amini Park precinct.
In his final address to the players and staff of CPNG, Nades said: “It has been a privilege and honour to guide and watch our national teams’ progress with professionalism in the global arena. I am confidence Cricket PNG will continue to grow under its new leadership.”
Wayne Dorgan, managing director of Pacific MMI Insurance, was elected the new chairman of Cricket PNG at the AGM.
