THE Papua New Guinea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PNGCCI) says it will develop an immediate 100-day work plan aimed to build its profile.
This follows the successful election of its new executives on Friday at its annual general meeting held in Port Moresby which saw former vice-president Ian Tarutia now taking over as president from John Leahy.
The new executives voted into office are: Ian Tarutia (president), John Byrne (vice-president Momase and Highlands), Jeff Abel (vice-president Southern), David Stein (vice-president Islands), Zanie Theron (treasurer), Phil Franklin (secretary), Michael Henao (board appointment coordinator), Peter Del Monte (regional coordinator) and Chey Scovell (international affiliations).
Responding to questions from The National, Tarutia said the new executives were a blend of experience and youth and all capable individuals.
“An immediate 100-day plan for the new team would be to focus on building the profile of the chamber, engaging more with key peak bodies and stakeholders on matters of mutual interest, advocating for its provincial members and adequately resourcing its secretariat,” he said. Tarutia in welcoming the new executives, thanked the outgoing president Leahy for his stewardship of the PNGCCI and, specifically acknowledged Leahy’s role in reconciling with Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry (POMCCI) and returning POMCCI to PNGCCI membership roll.
The election was preceded by a special general meeting in which amendments were passed to allow new positions of regional vice-presidents to be a part of a revised executive structure.
Meanwhile, the president of the Papua New Guinea Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Zanie Theron, is now a part of the executive.
