Chamber hopes Lae road will be maintained

THE Lae Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) says roads in the city are getting better and it hopes the roads are kept that way.
In a statement on Friday, president John Byrne said the chamber was in consultation with the provincial Department of Works (DoW) and the Morobe administration to make all roads in the city usable again. “The roads are improving and we hope this is not a one-off solution,” Byrne said.
“We have a strategy to maintain them to a driveable standard.
“The chamber is in consultation with the Works and Morobe administration to achieve this goal.
“Some will say thanks to the Hunters and (North) Devils for coming to town, as it appears the road gets levelled only when a dignitary or guest is coming in.
“I prefer to think that there is a strategy and plan to get improvement and sustainability.”
Lae MP John Ross told The National last week that his district development authority had allocated K500,000 to have all the pothole-riddled sections of the roads in the city fixed.
Rosso said the aim was to improve the city’s road systems and make driving enjoyable.
Rosso said apart from the main artery roads in the city, the national government through the Department of Works had funded the 3km Unigate-Bumayong Road.
