Chamber hoping for no disruptions to Tokua flights

THE East New Britain Chamber of Commerce and Industry hopes there will be no disruption to flights to and from Tokua as the airport can only take Dash-8 aircraft.
Chamber president David Stein said: “The plan is that Tokua will remain open for the Dash-8 aircraft through the Christmas period.
“But Tokua had already been restricted to Dash-8 aircraft for around 12 months.
“So nothing has really changed.”
The runway maintenance will be done by the National Airports Corporation over two months.
“Air Niugini’s Fokker-100 aircraft used to fly there,” he said.
“That situation will continue until at least the end of January and maybe longer if wet weather causes further delays.
“I was told that G-Man construction are still working on the contract which includes the main runway repairs.
“The original scope was to excavate out a 15m wide strip up the middle of the runway and replace it with new road base material prior to sealing,
“The scope has now been revised to scarify the middle of the runway area and re-compact the existing pavement material prior to sealing.”
