Change eyed for Jiwaka as focus turns to law and order

ACTING Jiwaka police commander Horim Piamia says next year will be the year of change for the province as police will be serious in addressing law-and-order problems.
He said police would eradicate social problems which were getting worse in the province.
Piamia pointed out that in almost all council wards that he visited, he noticed more people smoking marijuana and drinking homebrew.
“We will declare a social warfare in the province next year to change our mindset and make Jiwaka better,” Piamia said.
“We will try to be different from other provinces in a positive way and to do that, we will clean up our house.”
He said there were land issues at Banz “so we will create a conducive environment by removing all black markets”.
“We are also having problems with our police officers,” Piamia said.
“They do not care about the welfare of the people.
“Some of them have disciplinary problems and do not perform to the expectation of the people and that of the constabulary.
“We want to trim down and work with quality police officers.”
He warned youths who conduct illegal road blocks and collect money from vehicle owners to stop.
“I hate attitude problem and lazy people disturbing peace and being hindrances to development,” Piamia said.
“They are obstacles to a better Jiwaka society. It’s time we take action instead of talking.”
