Change Morobe’s tax system

Letters

AN exercise currently carried out by the Internal Revenue Commission (IRC) on de-grouping of companies and businesses nationwide is good for all provinces.
I commend IRC Commissioner-general Sam Koim and urge Morobe government under Governor Ginson Saonu to follow the footsteps of Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta and his provincial government and invite IRC to do the same in Morobe as soon as possible.
Sixty per cent of goods and services tax (GST) can be diverted back to provinces.
The Morobe government should find a taxable solution to raise extra revenues by taxing all goods coming into and leaving Lae’s main wharf every day.
Revenue raised from these avenues can be paid direct into a special trust account to be shared between Lae city authority and the 33 local level governments in the nine districts of Morobe .
The newly-established Lae city authority board should have an appointed representative from each districts.
