Chimbu economy will flourish with political support: Officer

Business

CHIMBU acting administrator Sebastian Kee says there must be political support to boost any economy and Chimbu’s is no exception.
He said some of the common challenges faced by businesses in the province were proper water connection, road infrastructure and law and order issues.
With no active business chamber in town, Kee hoped one would be revived after the general election.
He said the function of a town or provincial chamber of commerce and industry was important to get better representatives of the business community.
He said there were many business activities in Kundiawa and the province.
“There are general stores, trading businesses, both wholesale and retail, liquor distributors, fuel service stations, hire cars, PMV bus operators, hotels, lodges, secondhand sellers, general farmers, onion and potato farmers, and also cattle farmers, and some conservation areas like Mt Wilhelm, it also attracts the tourists, and tourist also bring money in, these are areas that generally support the economy in the province,” he said.
“Also the trainees and students of the two national institutions, a teachers’ college and nursing college, also bring in students and parents from all over PNG to the province, and this also boosts the local economy.
“The Kundiawa General Hospital is also one area that brings patients coming into Kundiawa (from the Highlands region) and then they need food and accommodation, so they contribute to the economy as well.”
