CHIMBU and Jiwaka will have a road built.
They signed an agreement last week to have the road built from Minj in the Anglimp-South Waghi electorate to Kup in Kerowagi and onto Pildimna in the Gumine district of Chimbu.
The signing ceremony was held at Dru Wamugl in Kerowagi, Chimbu. It will be funded by the Asian Development Bank.
Jiwaka Governor Dr William Tongamp said work would begin immediately.
“Two machines are to be stationed here at Dru Wamugl and one working toward Minj, and the other into Gumine,” Tongamp said.
Included in the agreement were three other projects – the Minj-Kup-Gumine road, Dona-Kerowagi road, and the central market at Kumbal.
Chimbu Governor Michael Dua said the people had been “crying for this road for a very long time” and they “are getting it”.
Anglimp-South Waghi MP Joe Kuli gave K1 million from DSIP funding for the initial road work.
He urged people to stop disturbing workers on the construction site. “We must support the road construction,” Kuli said.
Gumine MP Nick Kuman committed K500,000 for the project.
The Minj-Kup-Gumine road runs through areas which produce coffee and have the potential for other agricultural activities.
