Chimbu recount done, set for court

THE judicial recount for the Chimbu provincial seat was completed last week and the results will go back to court on Thursday, Electoral Commissioner Patilias Gamato says.
Gamato told The National yesterday that the recount conducted at the National Sports Institute in Goroka, Eastern Highlands was done by Thursday last week but the results would have to be returned to court.
“It took us almost three months and cost around K2milion to have the recount done,” Gamato said.
“It was delayed for a while because there were too many disturbances at the start of the count.
The Waigani National Court on Nov 27, last year, upheld a petition filed by former Chimbu Governor Noah Kool challenging the victory of incumbent Governor Michael Dua during the 2017 national election.
The court then ordered a judicial recount.
