MINISTER for National Planning Richard Maru gave K2.5 million for the feasibility study and assessment of Kup Airport in Chimbu to be built as one of the Government’s significant projects.
It will be the provincial airport for Chimbu and Jiwaka and serve as the regional airport.
Maru visited the site at Kup on Wednesday to assess it after Civil Aviation Safety Authority (Casa), who was responsible for feasibility study reports to the Government, guaranteed the construction phase.
Maru said the previous government allocated K10 million for feasibility studies and assessments and the report had to be finalised for Government guarantees.
Maru said Kup Airport would cost more than K100 million.
“This will be a significant project for the Government as the current airports were built by the colonial administration,” he said.
Maru said the project would support development of the economy and create more opportunities for people and the Government.
