THE Rotarians of Goroka, Eastern Highlands, have been raising funds to purchase items that people need.
The organisation’s latest assistance was the donation of a medical ultrasound scanner to the management of Eastern Highlands health authority (EHPHA).
The president of the Rotary Club of Goroka John Onga, in a small presentation ceremony at the health authority head office on Thursday, said the Rotary Club was committed to ensuring funds were raised to cater for vital items that would help people in need.
“The Rotary Club is here as a charity organisation,” he said.
“We are here to help and support our people, especially patients in hospitals as well as schools around the province.
“Our aim as a non-governmental organisation is to come up with fund raising activities so that we are able to provide and assist people in need.”
Onga said the Rotary Club had provided and supported the Goroka hospital as well as schools in several districts over the years.
“We are thankful to Motor Vehicle Insurance Ltd and the Eastern Highlands education division for their support in making funds available through our fundraising drive to purchase the ultrasound scanner,” he said.
Chief executive of the EHPHA Dr Joseph Apa said he was grateful for the donation.
He assured the Rotary Club that the scanner would be put to good use for the benefit of patients and people in need.
Curative health services director Dr Kapiro Kendaura also expressed gratitude the Rotary Club for the donation.
He said it was a worthwhile diagnostic contribution that will benefit patients.
