Chimbu’s limestone

Letters

I am writing regarding the article published in The National on Friday under the headline ‘Chimbu not happy with handling of limestone project’.
Chimbu is one the poorest provinces and is dominated by rugged rocks. Limestone is almost in all the districts of Chimbu.
Chimbu limestone has long fascinated Earth sciences because of its rich fossil content.
The limestone also has considerable commercial importance.
Limestone is rich in phosphate because of the chemical action of ocean waters, making it a principal source of raw material for fertiliser.
Thus far, the project is a national project and will benefit the people of Papua New Guinea.
The funding of K8 million for feasibility studies have to be immediately audited and the project should proceed without delay.
