China links stronger

Letters

In 1976, a year after the country gained independence from Australia, Papua New Guinea and China agreed to have strong diplomatic relations.
The two countries currently maintain diplomatic, economic and, to a lesser degree, military relations. Relations are cordial – China is a significant provider of both investments and developmental aid to PNG.
The relationship has remained strong over the years.
Since Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his team took over the government, the relationship has strengthened.
China’s developmental aid to PNG brings many long-term changes, not only in the main centre of Port Moresby but at all other centres throughout the country.
China is not greedy and provide basic services while at the same time giving locals jobs.
I thank the ruling government for engaging China as our major development partner.
We hope that we will see many changes through the partnership as China seems willing to help us in many ways.
