MEMBERS of the 12th China medical team to Papua New Guinea are now working at the Port Moresby General Hospital (PMGH) alongside hospital staff, says a doctor.
Team deputy captain Dr Jason (Zhenqui) Liu said when the team arrived last March, they donated some medical supplies to the hospital and supported its fight against he Coronavirus (Covid-19).
During a presentation at the 56th Medical Symposium of the Medical Society of PNG, Dr Liu said the team included seven specialist doctors, a nurse and an interpreter from Chongqing city.
“Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, we couldn’t work in the hospital immediately,” he said.
“We had to fight the pandemic first.
“This included our team travelling to the provinces where we visited the provincial health authorities, conduct training on the Sinopharm vaccination and even helped in Covid-19 awareness.
“In three months, 16 provinces were visited.
“Vaccines are important as we can protect people from being infected .
“So we were promoting it. At PMGH, a tent was set up where we assisted the staff in vaccination from time to time.
“Clinical work was supposed to be the focus of the team.”
As the situation improved, team members picked up their roles in the hospital, the specialists said.
