HUNDREDS of Christians from Assemblies of God (AoG) churches in Western Highlands gathered at Kelinga village in Mul-Baiyer electorate to celebrate the church’s 70th anniversary.
Members of AoG in Western Highlands and Jiwaka turned out in numbers at Queen Elizabeth in Mt Hagen on November 12 and celebrated the event.
The AOG Mt Sinai district, which is made up of 34 churches, took the lead in Western Highlands to stage a week-long crusade since November 12 at Kelinga village.
Superintendent of Assemblies of God Church Highlands pastor Peter Ropra was the guest speaker for the one-week crusade.
Ropra was airlifted from Mt Hagen to Kelinga for the gathering.
Organising committee chairman Wilson Kingal said Mt Sinai district had prepared in advance for the occasion.
He said the district covered churches in Mul-Baiyer, Tambul-Nebilyer and Dei districts.
Celebrations ended last Friday.
Kingal said this was the time when Christians looked back at the humble beginnings of the church.
Ropra said the Assemblies of God Church began its work in Hayfield, Elegita, Maprik and Wewak in East Sepik on November 1948.
“I’m happy to be here to celebrate this event with the people of the Mt Sinai district and the province as a whole,” he said.
“We are praying that God will move mightily in this nation and the people through this celebration.”
Ropra commended Christians from Mt Sinai for making the event a success.
