Christians must accept sports entertainment

I WRITE to highlight the experiences I learnt from our Christian neighbours in Australia regarding the effects of week end evening sporting entertainment that is having on the Christian churches, especially the attendance to Sabbath and Sunday morning worship.

I therefore wish to put on notice the Christian community and churches, especially in the National Capital District, on what they may expect after the 2015 Pacific Games that will challenge and test their faith if they fail to take effective measures to manage and discipline themselves.

The challenge will come with the new state of the art sporting facilities built in Port Moresby for the Pacific Games in July, which will eventually be used for sporting events.

There is nothing wrong with sports and sports entertainment as they are beneficial to our human wellbeing but we must learn to manage ourselves sensibly as well as exercise discipline and commitment towards our Christian faith.

There will surely be many sweeteners like musical entertainment at the sports venues by sponsors that will make it a lot more harder for people to resist attending these events.

My fellow Christians, please be reminded that the Government and churches recently signed a covenant committing our country and people to the God of Israel who is also our God and creator that we all must honour.
