CHS keen to partner with Govt

THE Christian Health Services (CHS) is committed to working in partnership with the Government to deliver healthcare services to the people, chairman Japalis Kaiok says.
Kaiok said this during the CHS 52nd national annual conference last week.
He said due to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, CHS did not have the conference in the last two years and it was good to have around 250 leaders from the different churches coming together.
“This conference is about discussing issues surrounding the healthcare service delivery within CHS and how we can collaborate and work with partners,” he said.
“We also talk about what the church can do to complement the National Health Plan (NHP) by the Health Department.
“Our plans have to be in line with the key priority areas of the NHP.
“An important discussion this week was around the first key result area of the NHP which is health promotion.
“Health promotion has been an ongoing programme for the CHS but for the first time, it was really highlighted in the NHP.
“There is a lot of work to do in this area of getting the prevention message out into the communities.”
Kaiok said the other agenda was the community health workers (CHW) training curriculum.
He said almost 90 per cent of the CHW training schools in the country were run by the churches and it was important that a standardised curriculum was used with clear pathways for career development.
He added that the highlight of the annual meeting was the launching of the government’s payroll rollout for the CHS workforce.
