MEMBERS of the Lutheran Church in Chimbu’s Mt Ararat are celebrating the opening of a new building.
The new church is part of the Kagai circuit of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chimbu.
Head bishop of the PNG Evangelical Lutheran Church Rev Jack Urame said the new church was built because they needed one.
“The congregation has increased and some had to walk long distances to attend services on Sundays,” he said.
“As servants of the church, we must reach the congregation by implementing the ELCPNG vision 2030.”
The new church is near Yuai village, about a kilometre outside Kundiawa town and near the Chimbu River.
Organising committee chairman Ambangi Nime said the Mt Ararat Lutheran Church was one of the 12 churches in the Kagai circuit in the Yongomugl local level government of Sinasina-Yongomugl.
The church will cater for people from Kundiawa-Gembogl and Sinasina-Yongomugl.
“This building will allow people from surrounding villages to attend church without having to walk long distances and without being disturbed at notorious placed such as the Yaui Market,” Nime said.
He also urged people engaged in illegal activities at the Yuai Market to attend church services.
“They must come to church and stop illegal activities in town and market places,” he said.
“This church building is where you will receive messages from our pastors preaching the Word of God.”
