THE Evangelical Lutheran church of PNG will be launching its Vision 2030 strategic plan focusing on the family, at its 33rd synod in Port Moresby.
The week-long synod hosted by ELC-Papua district will start on Sunday with an opening ceremony at the Sir John Guise Stadium (indoor complex).
General-secretary Bernard Kaisom said the synod would discuss matters relating to operation of church in administering Gospel and social services.
He said the highlight would be the launching of the ELC-PNG Vision 2030 Strategic Plan based on the vision: Sharing the Faith, Building the Church.
He said the focus would mainly be on the household.
“Other matters relating to church operation, administering of gospel and social services will also be discussed at the synod,” he said.
He said the theme of the synod was based on Joshua 24:15 “for me and my family, we will serve the Lord”.
“We believe that a spiritually, physically and mentally strong family will create a strong church and a stronger PNG,” Kaisom said.
Preparations for the synod are well underway.
“The host district is doing final preparations. Youths and Sunday school children are camping out at the Kirap Bek Lutheran congregation, rehearsing for the opening ceremony.” Kaisom said sub-committees for accommodation, food, transport, and venues were doing final checks.
He said national committee at the church’s headquarters at Ampo in Lae were also going through final stages of getting the synod reports and other formalities done.
“For the church mission fields of Vanimo and Manus, you are to contact me (church secretary) on your arrival dates so arrangements can be made with the host district. Each of the 17 ELC-PNG districts are responsible for their own travel arrangements.”
Kaisom said the districts and delegates needed to advise national committee on their arrival dates so the host committee would be advised. An advance team is already on the ground in Port Moresby working with the host team.
