Church union gets K10,000

THE PNG Anglican Mothers Union has received a K10,000 donation to help them in their efforts to conduct awareness on social issues in the country.
According to Morobe union president Rose Sitae, more than 10,000 members of the national union carried out awareness on important issues such as gender-based violence under the parenting project.
“We believe marriage issues push children to the streets, which in turn affects the community, so we try to intervene by offering counselling,” she said.
Sitae said the pressing issue this year that the project faced was the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, which has been affecting the country.
She said members of the Anglican congregation who were health professionals trained the mothers under this union.
The women have since conducted awareness through the Highlands provinces and Morobe, distributing face masks and hand sanitisers.
She said the money given by Lae MP John Rosso, through the Lae City Authority, would go towards supporting this existing programme.
Rosso said Covid-19 awareness was important for the people as the disease was responsible for taking many lives.
