Teachers praised for their work

AN education official in Morobe has praised the efforts of teachers across the country for being the springboard for thousands of students in this time of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
While observing World Teachers Day yesterday, programme adviser Keith Tangui said teachers were playing an important role.
He highlighted the issues teachers continued to face while trying to deliver quality education to children.
“Teachers have to walk long distances to access vital services like banking and airstrips,” he said.
“Teachers are vulnerable also because some communities don’t work well with them.”
“If community feels a teacher has done something wrong, there are amicable solutions to reach through mutual understandings rather than burn down classrooms or teacher’s house.
“All these should be minimised because teachers are very important people and once we scare them, they leave schools and we hamper our children’s education.
“So I urge communities to respect them and look after them.”
Tangui also paid tribute to 21 Morobe teachers who died last year and the 11 who died in the first half of this year.
He commended all teachers in Morobe for their hard work.
