Church urges fans not to attack players on social media

FANS should be kind to the SP Hunters in the 2021 Intrust Super Cup campaign and not attack them on social media, an official says.
Hunters coach Matthew Church said during their team training at the National Football Stadium last week that rugby league followers in the country should encourage the players by making good comments as they represent the country.
“To the fans and the people of Papua New Guinea listening out there, we (SP Hunters) are going to need your support,” Church said.
“Be kind to our boys while they are away. They are representing you and they will give their best.
“I know that they will put their best forward and I know that they have the best interest of the country at heart.
“So on social media, be kind to them. They are going to need words of encouragement.
“Don’t discourage them with negative comments.”
Church said the players understood their responsibility and the expectations of the fans and sponsors.
He said the team would not use the relocation as an excuse but would give their best.
“The players know what is expected of them,” he said.
“They know very well that relocation won’t be an excuse for them and they will perform to their best.
“The team will be based in a world class high performance centre. The facilities there are similar to what NRL (National Rugby League) clubs were using and that’ll help the boys.
