YOUTHS around the Trans-Vanapa local level government (LLG) area in Kairuku-Hiri, Central, will now have an opportunity to expose their talents in a competition, says Koiari Rugby League president Walo Auda.
He said the district administration would set up a competition for youths in Trans-Vanapa, Koiari and Mekeo, apart from the existing Koiari Rugby League in Sogeri.
“Young people from this part of the district have been denied an opportunity to participate in sports competitions over the years,” Auda said.
He thanked local MP Peter Isoaimo for the initiative and funding which would see the kick-off of the competition next month.
Auda said the Trans-Vanapa competition would cover Osabewai, Vesubewai, Goldie, Nari-Bisogo, Laloki, Sabusa, Ruburogo-Dasiama, Brown River, Vanapa, Kerea, Kuriva, and East and West Mekeo. He said as the Koairi Rugby League president for more than eight years, he wanted to improve the standard of the sport in the district.
“I see that the majority of talented players are missing out on the local and semi-professional competitions,” Auda said.
He said they were working with the district administration to register the competition under the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League, so that players could be selected into the Digicel Cup.
“This is how we create pathways for our younger generation to be able to improve their skills and further their rugby league careers,” Auda said.
