City Mission gives youths in Madang a helping hand

City Mission launched its new youth programme in Madang last week.
The event featured a ground-breaking ceremony at the Hululan Plantation outside Madang, followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Apex Hall in town.
Madang MP Bryan Kramer, City Mission PNG found Larry George and Australian High Commission representative Brendan Peace attended the ceremony.
Peace said the Australian government was pleased to support City Mission’s expansion to Madang through its youth life-skills programme.
“This support is part of our broader commitment to support young Papua New Guineans to realise their ambitions and contribute to PNG’s long-term development goals,” he said.
Last year, City Mission reached 886 young men in Port Moresby and Lae to help them break the cycle of street violence and crime.
The programme runs for 18 months and targets young men, including those who have experienced substance abuse and poverty.
The training package includes basic literacy and numeracy skills, vocational training, counselling and mentoring.
The first 60 participants in Madang will learn basic literacy and numeracy skills, before advancing to vocational skills training and job placements.
