City sector patrols begin in capital

POLICE have started sector crime-prevention patrols in the National Capital District (NCD), Central Asst Comm Anthony Wagambie Jr says.
“The trial patrols are not as big as I wanted but I am impressed with the quick response and proactive policing by the patrol units involved,”he told The National.
I want such patrols to advance further into a permanent daily police operation.”
“This is the best approach to crime prevention and quick response to incidents.
“ Our very active NCD Dog Unit and Mobile Squads have been providing support to the patrol units.
“I also intend to test such police crime-prevention patrols in Central as well so that there is higher police presence in districts as well”.
ACP Wagambie said he would be liaising with the Central police commander and visit all districts.
“Central is vast, so we will be looking at working closely with local level governments, MPs, the Central governor and other stakeholders to roll out policing initiatives in the province,”he said.
“Going into 2020, the command will be working closely with NCD and Central police administrations to roll out plans and concepts for all stakeholders to improve law enforcement and law and order.
“I want to see concerted efforts in crime prevention, proactive policing and immediate responses to crime.
“We want to lower the crime rate effectively and significantly. We also want to engage with the community frequently and to get them to take ownership of law and order issues.”
