MINISTER for Civil Aviation Lekwa Gure says his ministry will keep the skies of PNG safe.
In a ministerial statement on the 2018 Civil Aviation Safety Authority annual report, Gure said “to ensure that policy objectives are implemented, aviation safety regulation will be carried out with a high degree of independence from operators”.
“The current legislative and regulatory framework for civil aviation has been enacted for consistency and certainty, benefits of regulation will outweigh the costs, it will ensure accountability of the participants and its will undertake enforcement to maintain standards,” he said.
“The regulatory function of a safety regulator involves identifying the desired policy outcome through consultation and research.
“Determining the best method of implementing the policy and when necessary developing appropriate rules to assure the outcome.
“The Civil Aviation Safety Authority recognises that this is a gradual process towards a tangible outcome and does not happen overnight.”
