A CLAN in Milne Bay has asked for the support of the Government to stop the sale of a group of islands belonging to its members.

The Linawia Sisilili clan on Panaeati, Misima, claim that they own the Conflict Group of Islands.

Clan chairman Daniel Duncan said: “We are seeking the support of our Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, Lands Minister Benny Allan and Governor Titus Philemon to put in place relevant land legislation to stop the sale of the Conflict Islands in the international market.”

The islands lie to the south of Alotau.

Duncan appealed to O’Neill to advise state departments to stop the sale of the islands to international parties, market and return them to the people of Panaeati.

“Misima Islands rescued the PNG economy through the Misima mine when Paguna mine was closed,” he said.

“The state made millions through the Jomard Pilot project exploiting the marine resources of our traditionally customary marine areas.

“The least the State could do is to support us to return the 23 islands to us.”

He relayed the same request to non-government organisations and international groups such as Greenpeace.

Duncan said anyone who wanted to assist and support the Panaeati clan should contact him on 7125 1185 or email [email protected].
