Clan pays compensation over death

A TOTAL of K120,000 in cash, 100 pigs, six cows and a horse were paid as compensation to the relatives of a young man killed in a fight in Mt Hagen last year.
The Moge Nambuka clan of Mt Hagen paid the compensation to the Moge Anducklamp clan of Mt Hagen for the death of one of their clansmen who was killed in November.
The death occurred after both clans had been involved in a fight which had also resulted in other men from both sides being injured in the confrontation.
Following the killing the Nambuka community decided to apologise and compensate the relatives of the deceased.
Moge Nambuka Palimp one ward councillor Eka Wek commended both clans for choosing peace and for one side making amends through the compensation ceremony.
Wek apologised to the Anducklamp on behalf of his clan and praised leaders from both side’s for working to restore order following the killing.
“The Moge tribe is known as peacemakers” he said.
He said the incident had been sparked by drunkards and now the clan had to resolve it.
