Police file for the case against Yip Chee Ming Sam, accused of selling counterfeit South Pacific Brewery Ltd beer was served to parties yesterday.
Police prosecutor Snr Sgt Chris Iga said in the Waigani Committal Court that file was served to Yip’s lawyer Mike Golu in the morning.
Magistrate Paul Puri Nii then asked Golu how long he needed to make a defence submission.
Golu in response said three weeks would be sufficient time for him to prepare the submission.
Nii adjourned the matter to June 8 for defence submission and extended Yip’s bail.
Yip, 48, from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, was arraigned in January.
Police alleged that on Christmas Eve 2021, information was received that there was a container filled with “fake green cans of beer” parked at the back of a club located at section 38, allotment 21 along Waigani Drive.
The team and police then opened the container and found cans of beer bearing the SP label.
Upon inquiry, police were advised that the container belonged to the club.
Yip was then interviewed but he denied having knowledge of the container.
He was then arrested, charged, detained and released on a K2,000 bail.
