Clans make peace over election-related fight

THE Paiyak, a sub-clan of Kii clan living near Wabag town in Enga have initiated a peace process feast in relation to an election-related fight at Teremanda’s Leptenges village.
The feast on Friday was witnessed by police and representatives from the provincial law and order committee.
Paiyaks slaughtered 61 pigs and provided 6000 cartons of Coca- Cola, four cows, a goat and another 11 pigs.
Other sub-clans of lower Kii joined later to fight as unified Kii while the upper Kiis remained neutral.
The fight started between provincial administrator Dr Samson Amean’s Kala clan and Don Polye’s Kamberip clan from Kandep when Polye’s seven ballot boxes containing more than 7000 votes were disputed while corresponding seven boxes for the Enga regional seat were counted.
The Paiyaks were blamed for hosting the Kamberips of Kandep but Polye is related to the clan.
Paiyaks said Kalas were their “genuine brothers” from the beginning.
They said their relationship was affected by the fight, adding that it was restored for a lasting peace.
Most of the pork and some live pigs were given to former Kandep MP Don Polye to assist him in making peace with the relatives of those who had died and were wounded in the fight.
On the Kii-Kamberip side, eight were killed while 10 suffered bullet wounds.
Polye thanked the Paiyaks for giving him a fresh start.
Speaking to the big crowd that turned up, he said that he did not instigate the fight.
He said his people only fought for what he described as “uprightness”.
Polye renewed his call for the restoration of peace and order among the parties that were involved.
He said all Kalas were his “brothers”
