Clarify funding from Govt, MP tells church health services

TEWAI-Siassi MP Dr Kobby Bomareo wants Christian and Lutheran Health Services to clarify funding they’ve received from the Government and distributed this year.
It follows funding problems faced by two Lutheran-run hospitals in Morobe at the brink of closure that would leave thousands in rural Morobe and parts of Madang with no adequate healthcare.
Dr Bomareo said this was not the first time Etep and Braun had faced funding issues and had to close.
“Similar thing happened last year and the district assisted Etep with K150,000 and Braun with K55,000 since they serve our people of Sialum,” he said.
“Now, we have no choice but to help again – just last week we presented K110,000 to the hospital with the break-up that K70,000 goes to hospital operations, K30,000 for Coronavirus and K10,000 to women’s health services.
“It’s not the responsibility of the district to do continued support but we intervene when necessary and in such situations.
“But other health facilities under Lutheran Health Services are not (shutting) so they must come clear on this.”
