A SCHOOL located 3km from Buka town has opened a new classroom thanks to World Vision.

Like other schools they try to make ends meet and recover from the Bougainville conflict that went on for years and seriously impacted people’s lives.

Vinia Primary School is located about two hours’ drive from Buka town and a further 3km from the main Buka-Arawa road.

According to Lilian Raphael, the teacher in-charge of the school: “We started as an elementary school back in 2000 with one teacher and around 20 students.

“Materials were scarce so we did our best to dig into our pockets and managed to survive until World Vision came to our rescue,” she said.

“We are so grateful to World Vision for its support.”

Raphael said “moving from working under palm-thatched roofs to a building made with modern materials was a relief”. That boosted the students’ morale to study hard.
