A CLEANER in Parliament House was charged in the Waigani Committal Court yesterday with burglarising the office of National Capital District Governor Powes Parkop.
Magistrate Garry Unjo arraigned Kenny Arumba, 31, from Usino-Bundi’s Emegari village in Madang, and granted him K1,000 bail.
He also fixed May 12 for the second mention.
Arumba, who was employed by Parliament for six years, is alleged to have broken into the office between 5pm and 8pm on March 12, the day when Grand Chief Sir Michael Somare lay in state.
He allegedly told the security guards he wanted to sleep in the Parliament building and would leave the next day.
The guards allowed Arumba in and he went to the 4th floor.
He then allegedly turned on the hydraulic water hose, flooding the floor and used a fire extinguisher to break into the office.
Using the same fire extinguisher, Arumba allegedly smashed the glass wall to get onto the balcony.
Arumba then shouted at one of the security guards, sending guards rushing up to the floor to detain and hand him over to the Waigani police.
