WHY is it so hard for some Papua New Guineans to be responsible for their rubbish and cleaning up their communities?
The very mouths that complain about Government services are the ones that spit out betel nut almost everywhere in our towns and cities.
There is no logic in crying out to be recognised when you cannot appreciate what has been already provided for you.
I was fortunate to be part of a society that once regarded cleanliness as a sign of wealth and prestige but it’s not the same today.
With the increasing number of people dying from curable disease every day, we can always reduce that by practising cleanliness.
Even the highly-educated citizens who are supposed to be role models in society are falling short by acting irresponsibly.
Take a walk down your street, you won’t miss the sight of a driver or passenger in a vehicle spitting out betel nut or throwing out anything.
What is the point of hoping for a better future when we cannot get the basics right?
