THE Rotary Club of Boroko has donated six oxygen concentrator machines to Central health authority (CPHA) which will make a lot of difference to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) response, a doctor says.
Authority chief executive officer Dr James Amini said there was a need for more concentrators because many patients required oxygen support while waiting for ambulance to be transported to Port Moresby.
He said the concentrators produce air with high concentration of oxygen that is used to treat people with respiratory diseases.
“There were few oxygen concentrators but the need for it has increased,” he said.
“These machines will contribute to saving lives.”
The concentrators would be installed in health facilities in Agevairu, Sogeri, Hula, Porebada, Moreguina and Woitape and training would be conducted for medical staff to use and maintain the equipment. Club president Trevor Birney, during the handover yesterday, said the machines had been made possible by many generous corporate and individual sponsors in PNG who every year donated money and equipment to support community programmes.
“The purchase of the machines was made possible by the generous assistance of Supreme Industries in Port Moresby who facilitated the import on behalf of Boroko Rotary,” he said.
