Clubs keen to join NSL

THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) is optimistic that teams will show interest in joining the men’s National Soccer League (NSL) for the upcoming season.
Letenge told The National yesterday that prior to last week’s call for expressions of interest (EOI), a number of clubs had showed interest to compete as early as January.
“More than 10 clubs have showed interest to compete in the NSL, but we are sticking to our limit of 10 spaces to meet Fifa’s requirement to host a national league,” he said.
“We want to stick with 10 teams not only because it’s manageable but it’s to meet Fifa’s minimum requirement of having no less than 10 clubs and no more than 19 matches.”
Letenge said interested teams would have to complete and submit their EOI forms before May 28 with a non-refundable fee of K10,000.
“The three-week deadline is only for the EOI, the rest of the requirements (to join the NSL) will have to be met by July 12 which includes the K80,000 annual affiliation fee.”
