THE 80 players for the women’s national train-on squad are senior and development players, according to Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) general secretary Pius Letenge.
He said it was a big train-on squad as PNGFA was also focusing on development players for international duties.
Letenge said the development players, selected from the Women’s National Soccer League, would undergo training similar to that of the experienced campaigners.
“The youth development team will be successors of the senior women’s team which is something we have not done in many years,” he said.
“This will create pathways for youths to graduate into senior rankings.”
Meanwhile, Letenge said PNGFA would be flexible with the train-on squad.
“We need the best players who will form our senior women’s team but we also need to be inclusive,” he said.
“If we accept recommendations from other coaches in case we might have missed a potential player (in the selection), whether it be a youth or senior player, we will do our internal assessment.”
