PACIFIC Games gold medallist Nelson Stone’s group of national athletes received a double boost this week with the resumption of their training at Sir John Guise Stadium coinciding with a donation of meat products from Prima Smallgoods.
The athletes were delighted to be able to run on the track again after a lengthy break.
During the lockdown, the group were training at Stone’s home at Tokarara, National Capital District.
Prima has been supporting Athletics Papua New Guinea since 2016 with monthly donations of food to athletes in Lae and Goroka.
Coach Stone was on hand to see athletes Benjamin Aliel, Daniel Baul and Shadrick Tansi collect the products from the company in Gordon. The trio were all part of PNG’s gold medal-winning 4x400m relay team at last year’s Samoa Pacific Games.
The athletes are looking forward to the Dec 4-6 national championships at Sir John Guise Stadium.
Prior to that, East New Britain will be hosting the New Guinea Islands championships on Sept 29-30 subject to the approval of local authorities and West New Britain Athletics plans to host its provincial championships at Sasindran Muthuvel Stadium in Kimbe on Nov 14-15.
