PORT Moresby Vipers coach Leonard Tarum has hailed veteran forward Enoch Maki for his leadership throughout the season.
The SP Hunters and Papua New Guinea Kumul front-rower has been with the Vipers since 2012.
Tarum said Maki’s presence had helped maintain their team culture.
“Enoch has been part of this team for a long time,” he said.
“He knows the Vipers culture, the values of the team and he is passionate about wearing the jumper.
“He has helped young players learn new skills and they understand the significance of the team and who we represent.
“It’s great to build our young crop of players around Maki who is a veteran of the club.”
With Covid-19 forcing the cancellation of the Queensland Intrust Super Cup season, the Western Highlander has made the most of it by helping his side reach the Digicel Cup finals.
Maki will again lead the Vipers pack against last year’s runners-up Hela Wigmen in the minor semifinal at Sir John Guise Stadium on Sunday.
The Kumuls prop, who competed at the 2013 and 2017 World Cups, will be vying to maintain his spot heading into next year’s showpiece event in England.
