Coaches, officials recognised for Fina programmes

PAPUA New Guinea Swimming Incorporated (PNGSI) has recognised its coaches and technical officials for being part of International Swimming Federation (Fina) programmes which have improved swimming in the country.
PNGSI president Elizabeth Wells said continued support for swimming had seen more athletes and coaches obtain Fina certification.
The programme were made available by Fina through learning platforms for coaches which were introduced in PNG last year.
“This year, we have 15 coaches certified as Fina level-one coaches,” Wells said. “The accreditation programme will further grow and enrich our coaching development from learning to swim to strokes and techniques.
“The certification programme is into its second year and will see our level-one coaches progressing to level two.
“Our technical officials are now being named to officiate at their world-class Fina competitions.
“We are privileged to have five of our PNG technical officials officiate at the Samoa Pacific Games. They are Fina-registered referees.”
Wells also announced that PNG swimmer Judith Meauri as the next participant for the certification programme.
