THE partnership forged over the past eight years between United Resources Party (URP) and People’s National Congress (PNC) will be maintained until 2022.
Its leader William Duma and PNC leader Peter O’Neill reaffirmed this during a gala dinner on Saturday. Brushing aside rumours of a looming no-confidence vote against O’Neill in the May session of Parliament, the two parties vowed to keep their alliance intact.
Their relationship was forged in 2011 when URP stood behind O’Neill to become prime minister.
Even before completion of the 2017 general election, URP, People Progress Party, Social Democratic Party and PNC signed an agreement to form the Government.
O’Neill said the constant changes in Government and prime minster would create instability and slow development. He said with a strong coalition partnership, the Government was successful and stable.
O’Neill said even if a no-confidence vote was brought up against him, he was confident of beating it and continue to lead for the next three years.
