COFFEE is a strategic cash crop that can be integrated into Papua New Guinea’s foreign policy white paper, a government official says.
Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s senior foreign affairs officer Dominic Sengi said it was important to promote the coffee industry as well as other strategic and commodity crops such as palm oil, coconut, cocoa and vanilla.
“I have been tasked to lead the foreign policy white paper for PNG, so when you declare coffee and announce it as a strategic crop, that is when foreign policy come into play,” he said.
“We need to design a foreign policy pathway that can integrate and seek synergies to grow coffee industry in PNG.”
Sengi said these strategic crops would be subjected to all national consultations.
