Politics is not affecting businesses: Chamber

Business

PORT Moresby Chamber of Commerce and Industry (POMCCI) president Rio Fiocco says it is business as usual for business houses in Port Moresby despite all the political activities in the city.
“Politics is not affecting businesses in Port Moresby except that I believe some of the buses are not running today (yesterday) so that has obviously impacted on the number of people going to work and going to shops, schools,” Fiocco told The National yesterday.
He said members of the POMCCI would, however, like to see the normal process take its course.
“We would like to see the process, result itself, through the normal course in Parliament as quickly as possible so that business can get back to business as usual,” he said.
“It is business as usual for our members, we do not really want to get involved in politics at all. We just want to get on with business.”
Australia-PNG Business Council chief executive officer Materua Tamarua had similar views.
“It is businesses as usual for us, those are political developments, these things happen, it is part of the democratic process. All we can say is that we advocate good policies, especially policies that are conducive for business,” Tamarua said.
“Especially good policies that we can increase our business and offer more jobs in our country.”
