A LOCAL coffee cooperative group in Menyamya, Morobe, is calling on relevant authorities to help them conduct training for their 2,112 small holder coffee farmers.
Hamtai Coffee chairman Den Annas said the association was registered with Investment Promotion Authority (IPA) in June of 2018 but needed their members to be trained in how to produce and supply quality coffee beans.
“To run the training, we need K32,000,” Annas said.
“We have managed to raise K12,000 and we need another K20,000 which will be enough to conduct training for the 2,112 farmers we have.
“I’m calling on Kapao LLG (local level government) president, our MP Benjamin Philip or Governor Ginson Saonu to assist us in the training.
“Once the training is conducted, work will also start on coffee production in the district.
“All papers have been formalised and we are looking forward to the training which we are planning to conduct next month.”
Annas said coffee farming in the LLG would create revenue for the province but they needed help from the government.
He said the cooperative’s members were committed to coffee growing their efforts would be boosted significantly with the training.
